Bulgaria waits for Brussels approval of another BGN 280 mln for agricultural equipment

“We are waiting for Brussels approval of an additional resource of some BGN 280 mln,” Agricultural Minister Miroslav Naydenov said yesterday during the opening of the BATA AGRO International Trade Exhibition for Agriculture in Stara Zagora. The Ministry has asked the European Commission to permit the transfer of money to more attractive measures such as 121 for the modernisation of farms under Operational Programme Rural Development.

“More than 130 firms participated in the exhibition this year, compared to 80 in 2010. This is an indication of growth in the sector,” added the Minister. The trade balance in agriculture reported some 24% increase in 2010, reaching $1 bn last year, up from $380 mln in 2009.

A standard for chutney will be introduced as of September, excluding pumpkin puree, food preservatives, colouring agents, and taste enhancers as ingredients and the product will bear the logo of the Union of Fruit and Vegetables Processors. “Control will be uncompromising,” the head of the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety Yordan Voinov promised yesterday.
