Employees in Bulgaria Down by 0.1% in Three Months

Employees in Bulgaria as at March 31, 2011
totalled 2.15 million, down by 0.1 per cent from December 31,
2010, the National Statistical Institute said on Wednesday,
citing early estimates.

The largest decreases of employees were observed in the sectors
of electricity, heat and gas production and distribution, by 3.9
per cent, construction, by 3.7 per cent, and processing
industry, by 2.6 per cent.

The largest increases were registered in the real estate sector,
by 19.0 per cent, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries, by
9.7 per cent.

As at March 31, 2011, the largest part of employees were working
in the processing industry, 22.8 per cent, followed by trade
and motor vehicle repair, 18.2 per cent.

As at March 31, 2011 compared with March 31, 2010 employees
decreased by 41,000 (or 1.9 per cent). The largest decreases
occurred in construction, by 12.7 per cent, electricity, heat
and gas production and distribution, by 7.0 per cent, and public
administration, by 5.8 per cent.

The average monthly wage in Bulgaria was 663 leva (338.99 euro)
in January 2011, then 633 leva (323.65 euro) in February, and
689 leva (352.28 euro) in March.
