Parvanov: It does young mothers injustice to pay the price of the economic crisis

It is unjust for young mothers to pay a part of the price of the crisis, wrote the President, Georgi Parvanov, on his Facebook profile regarding refunding unduly received maternity benefits. He added that the social role of the Bulgarian state is essential in exactly such cases. Parvanov reminded that the withdrawal of benefits claimed by the state can only be disputed by submitting a personal claim to the respective authorities. He also explained that the complaints lodged have already been actively considered and are being processed.

In an announcement posted yesterday on the official website of the Presidency, it became clear that a total of 157 mothers have submitted claims to the President with the request for remission of the refunding of the unduly obtained benefits. The institution reminded that pursuant to Art. 98, Paragraph 12 of the Constitution the remission of uncollectible state receivables was within the powers of the Head of State. He drafted his decision based on the standpoint of the Commission on Remission of Uncollectible Receivables, which is operating under the umbrella of the Presidency.

A correspondence file is being compiled on each of the filed claims and the respective administrative procedure is underway. So far, a total of 24 remission demands have been procedurally considered, while the claims of 14 persons have been approved. The review of the remaining claims is due. The process of the drawing up of each file goes on for a few months because of the procedures stipulated by law. In fact, it depends on the time needed by the municipal administration bodies to collect the necessary information on the financial and property status of the persons who have already lodged remission applications.
