The world is facing a recruitment crisis
One in three employers in the world and one in four in Europe face serious problems in finding properly qualified staff, according to the sixth Annual Talent Shortage Survey of HR ManpowerGroup. This is the largest registered percentage, compared to the pre-recession indices of 2007. Moreover, 90% of employers indicated that their difficulties in finding adequately trained staff are mostly related to the lack of the necessary experience and skills, insufficient qualification or lack of personal abilities.
This, in the experts' opinion, means that the global employment sector faces a crisis in finding properly qualified staff, while there is oversupply of unemployed cadres and a great number of low-qualified employees. According to Manpower, this worrying trend resulted from the fact that, during the recession, companies focused on maintaining their financial flexibility and achieving a higher performance with less resources. Consequently, employers cut dramatically the workforce, having realised that they can achieve a higher productivity rate only by appointing the suitable employee to the right position.
Provided that, nowadays, a global economic recovery is being observed, the business sector does not wish to return to the pre-crisis labour force levels - it requires more specific staff skills or seeks suitable employees who will not only technically fit the position, but will also drive the enterprise forward.
The managers in the most difficult position are those in Japan, where 80% of employers pointed out that they experience problems in finding adequately qualified staff. The same problem is also faced by half of the managers in Romania (53%), United States (52%), Argentina (51%), Turkey (48%). For Bulgaria, this percentage is 42 - the same as in Hong Kong and Mexico. The employers confronting the least problems are those in Poland, Ireland and Norway. Among the surveyed European countries, Bulgaria ranked fourth in terms of the difficulty in finding properly qualified staff, outstripped by Romania, Turkey and Switzerland.
