Krassimir Velchev: The Finance Minister has been misled about the salaries of MPs

“Minister Simeon Djankov has been misled by statements about the amount of MPs' salaries,” commented yesterday Kraяsimir Velchev, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria). The reason for this comment was the statement of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov released a day earlier in Burgas. Djankov said that the remuneration model of MPs had to be reviewed and expressed his disagreement with the fact that they received higher salaries than the Prime Minister and the other ministers.

On Thursday morning, Krassimir Velchev discussed by telephone the matter with Simeon Djankov. The Head of the GERB PG believes that the Minister of Finance had been misled by some statements of Yane Yanev, leader of Order, Law and Justice party, who reported on one of the national TV channels that MPs received about BGN 5,000 per month on average, out of which BGN 1,464 - in an envelope.

“I told Djankov that he must not trust someone who is associated only with fake signatures and discrediting materials,“ said Velchev. He stated that the Finance Minister had ordered his experts to inspect this issue and would come out with a press release.
