BNB reports another 66 millionaires in Bulgaria despite the crisis

At the end of the second quarter of this year, a total of 492 households in Bulgaria held deposits of over BGN 1 mln in our banks. There were 13 more millionaires in comparison to the first quarter of the year and 66 more compared to the same period last year. This is data of the Bulgarian National Bank, which was posted on the website of the institution. Since the beginning of the year, the number of households holding over BGN 1 mln on deposit has increased by 38. However, this is not such a significant growth, considering that at the end of March another 84 households keeping seven-digit bank deposits were registered.

The total value of bank accounts of the richest Bulgarian families at the end of the second quarter of 2011 was BGN 1,207 bn, which is a slight decrease of BGN 5,78 mln quarter-on-quarter. For a year, however, the savings of the millionaires increased by BGN 242.08 mln. The average savings amount per household stood at BGN 2.45 mln.

The number of companies holding large deposits continue to increase - by 100 and at the end of June they numbered 1,779 with deposited funds of BGN 7,556 bn. This is a positive growth of over BGN 906 mln on an annual basis. In practice, it turns out that companies and households with seven-digits deposits are 2,271. They own nearly BGN 8.75 bn, which is 21% of the total funds deposited with banks in Bulgaria.

For a second consecutive quarter, BNB data shows a continuous upward trend of increase in savings. The amount of deposits of companies and households at the end of June was 12,652. Although these declined by 0.7% compared to June 2010, their total volume rose by 10.9% on an annual basis up to BGN 41.535 bn. BNB statistics confirmed again that businesses and households are not yet ready to take new risks and invest the funds. Instead, they prefer to hold them in banks and to benefit from a safe profitability.
