BIA: Our healthcare system suffers from low performance effectiveness

The performance effectiveness of the Bulgarian healthcare system is low since its costs are constantly on the rise and the health status of the population is not improving, according to one of the conclusions of the analysis of the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA), addressed to the GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party) government. At the end of July, the Cabinet requested a number of institutions to propose new measures within 14 days for a pension reform of the healthcare sector, of the labour market and of the education sector. The objective is to accelerate the implementation of the National Reform Programme of the Republic of Bulgaria 2011-2015.
 
BIA has a principled position for the drawing up of a common concept for amendments to the healthcare sector, which should unite the efforts of the GERB government, all interested parties and the public.

The Bulgarian Industrial Association delivered a serious criticism to the healthcare system with respect to its strong bureaucracy, the deepening disparities between the various social strata by districts and the low use of e-health opportunities.

Furthermore, there are stil many Bulgarians who fail to deposit health insurance contributions, indicates BIA. Experts added that the amount of installments provided by the state for the insured persons did not match the cost of the healthcare services provided to them.

Besides, the necessary dialogue for uniting the public for the implementation of the healthcare reform is still lacking. Instead, an atmosphere of common negativity was created and a general distrust was generated towards the announced intentions for a radical reform in the healthcare sector, emphasize the authors of the analysis
