BIA demands that Ministries officials pay themselves for pension insurance

The Bulgarian Industrial Association proposed yesterday a set of measures for reforming the pension system. One of the suggestions is that the salaries of officials from the Ministries of Interior, Defense and Justice be increased by 12% of the departmental budgets. so as to enable them to pay their pension insurance contributions themselves.
Some of the ideas refer to the development of new criteria for early retirement, radical changes to the system for granting disability pensions as well as to the abolition of the ceiling on the pensions and their receipt in a real amount, explained the Association's Executive Chairman, Bozhidar Danev.

According to the employers's idea, the officials of the Ministries of Interior (MI), of Defense (MD) and of Justice (MJ) should pay themselves their pension insurance contributions. This would mean that their salaries must be increased so that their net income is unaffected. "The increase of their remunerations should be at the expense of the budgets of the relevant ministries," explained Danev. The idea that officials from the MI, the MO and the rest of the state administration should insure themselves on their own was launched back at the beginning of the year. It encountered strong resistance at the time.. According to Danev, this change will allow for the fiscal transparency of the ministries' budgets as well as their transfers to the NSSI (National Social Security Institute).

The Association also proposed that the amount of pension insurance contributions for employees of the MO, MI and MJ be brought in compliance with the amount and duration of receiving the pension.
