Yordanka Fandakova promises a beautiful and clean capital to the residents of Sofia

Yesterday, Mayor Yordanka Fandakova promised a beautiful and clean European capital to the residents of Sofia if she would be re-elected for a second term. The candidate for Mayor, nominated by GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), presented in the National Palace of Culture her work program for the management of the capital city, titled "We are building Sofia. European Capital of Sustainable Development".

"Real results can be achieved with consistent work alone, strict control over the spending of every BGN, openness, and dialogue with people," said Fandakova before the audience in the Palace of Culture. She emphasised that the campaign, besides a race in visions for the development of the city, was a continuation of her work for the capital and not just a staged electoral spectacle. According to her, Sofia has already been declared the best city for doing business due to the lowest unemployment rate and this trend should continue and strengthen its position as an attractive and active city.

Yordanka Fandakova outlined the green living, the sanitation of buildings, the efficient water use, the reduction in the number of stray dogs as priorities in her program. “Construction of kindergartens became my personal priority over the years. By the end of this year alone,  the creation of about 700 more places in kindergartens is planned. We continue to work on the modernization of schools with a focus on children’s safety," she stated.

The candidate for Mayor of Sofia intends to overcome the negative consequences of overbuilding by the construction of sewerage systems, streets and bike lanes over the next four years.

The current Mayor of Sofia marked the breaking up of the monopoly on the cleaning of the city as a successful move, which made the town visibly cleaner, green and colourful.

Fandakova pointed out that Sofia’s budget had doubled with the successful European projects and that over BGN 1 bn of granted EU funds had been invested for their implementation.
