New charges against Kiril Rashkov may be raised

“I do not rule out the possibility of raising new charges against Kiril Rashkov. This will be done when concrete evidence is gathered,” Prosecutor General Boris Velchev said yesterday before the session of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

Most likely, the new indictment against Rashkov will be for tax evasion. “According to the information at my disposal, a substantial progress was made in the investigation of the tax offences committed by him,” specified Velchev.

“Kiril Rashkov is no longer free and I hope that he will remain in custody. An indictment against him is yet to be submitted,” added the Prosecutor General.

Boris Velchev commented as well on the lawsuit for inciting ethnic hatred in Varna, a few hours before the court’s ruling: “The important thing is to create an instinct of intolerance to such behaviour. Probably, there will be cases that will remain unpunished. You realise that at a rally of 1,000 people you cannot arrest all of them. There are no grounds for the prosecution to tackle the question whether a language other than Bulgarian has been spoken at rallies, this is not a problem of the prosecution,” commented Velchev.

“The number of cases and files for vote trading has increased considerably,” said the Prosecutor General. He explained that he could not specify their number because the figure is dynamic, but noted that they were increasing each day.
