Rosen Plevneliev: I have a clear vision for the future of Bulgaria

“I will work for the Presidency to become a strategic centre which will set the vision and the priorities of Bulgaria,” said yesterday the newly elected Head of State Rosen Plevneliev on BNT. Plevneliev pointed out that he and Vice President Margarita Popova were motivated to work hard because "times are hard and tough decisions are needed."

“This will be hard work; there will be tension and conflicts, but when a national cause has to be defended, we will always make the right decisions,” Plevneliev promised.

“The appropriate team is a guarantee for everything that we want to achieve. We need a lot of young and competent people. We want to redeem the Presidency from all kinds of dependencies," explained Plevneliev and admitted that he had not yet formed his team. However, it became clear that he will appoint three or four of his former assistants: the current Deputy Minister of Regional Development Katya Zaharieva, his PR Manager Maria Ivanova and his Parliamentary Secretary Pavel Atanassov. Zaharieva and Atanassov will join the team of the President in mid-January.

Promise of Transparency

The future Head of State promised that the work of the Presidency will be transparent. "We have been chosen by the Bulgarian people and they should know what we are doing," said Plevneliev. Asked about the upcoming changes in the Presidency and about the management of the special services, the President replied: "I rely on professional skills and the concept of a modern statehood, including the special services. They should not work for any party but in favour of the institutions and the people. " Asked to comment on the claim that he will be dependent on Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Plevneliev said:" I have always been myself and my personality cannot be changed."
“Ivaylo Kalfin was a worthy opponent and I thank him for his correct behaviour at the end of the campaign,” said further Rosen Plevneliev.
