Additional freight permits to Russia to be negotiated

Bulgarian Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski will hold a meeting with Igor Levitin, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, on Wednesday to negotiate additional single freight transportation permits to Russia,” announced the ministry. The two will talk in Kazakhstan during the Eighth International Conference TransEurasia 2011. According to the bilateral agreement between Bulgaria and Russia, the annual number of single freight permits between the two countries is 10, 000. For 2011, Bulgaria has negotiated an additional quota of 2,000 permits which have already been used, explained the Transport Ministry.

According to the Automobile Administration Executive Agency, a quota of 12,000 freight permits for 2011 is extremely insufficient and our country needs at least another 2,000.

“Bulgaria ran out of permits because there has been an overflow of cargo from the water and rail transport to road transport,” Koicho Russev, Management Board member of the Association of the Bulgarian Enterprises for International Transport and the Roads (AEBTRI), explained to Klassa. According to him, the increase is not only due to the greater number of issued freight permits, but also to a decrease in the cases of attacks on truck drivers and the improved quality of infrastructure. Branch representatives explained that wine, canned food, agricultural products and medicines were the main items exported to the Russian market.
