Minister Donchev: The mistakes in the implementation of the operational programmes in Bulgaria are less than 2%

“Bulgaria is one of the few EU countries where the percentage of mistakes in the implementation of the operational programmes is below the 2% threshold,” said Minister of EU Funds Management Tomislav Donchev during a discussion titled “Balancing Control and Speed in the Absorption of EU Funds”. A special guest at the event was Christofer Fjellner, MEP from the EPP and rapporteur for Bulgaria in 2010 on the procedure for relief of responsibility.

“The countries, occupying the first three positions in the ranking for mistakes in the spending of money from the Cohesion Fund, account for about 60% of all the mistakes in the EU. Italy is on top of the list with 31% of the mistakes, followed by Spain with 18% and the UK with 11%,” specified Christofer Fjellner. “The main purpose of seeking the optimal balance is to achieve a maximum speed of spending, without lowering the control or increasing the number of mistakes,” explained Donchev.
