Prime Minister Boyko Borissov addresses the Opposition: Your dreams of the construction of motorways will only be achieved by GERB's government

Your dreams of the construction of motorways will be achieved by GERB's (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) government. We have waited for you for 20 years to construct a single highway. This is how Prime Minister Boyko Borissov answered the questions posed by the Coalition for Bulgaria (CB) during the parliamentary control session yesterday.

Afterwards, he asked what right does the government have to declare that former governments have failed to implement any projects and that GERB's Cabinet was the only one able to achieve these. According to him, in no way, has this construction process been initiated by GERB's government." The purpose of the Bulgarian Government today is clear: "it is times of crisis, we are constructing motorways, while the increase in pensions and salaries will be delayed". ''Should all people live in privation,'' asked rhetorically CB's deputy.

Why do contractors use ash as  a construction material for laying down the motorway's foundations, continued Mihalevski with his questions, while reminding that samples of building materials were sent to the most reputable laboratories in Bulgaria and the test results have confirmed his suspicions. He also asked why the construction costs of the single Lots of the Trakia motorway were different.

According to the data of Coalition for Bulgaria, 80% of the construction of the Maritsa and Struma highways was EU-funded with a transfer of BGN 300 mln per year, while 20% of the construction was subsidised out of the state budget. This means that the 20% will be at the expense of Bulgarian pensioners who must pay BGN 43 per year or BGN 3.60 monthly - 1.3% of the average pension. Mihalevski stated that the purchasing power of Bulgarian citizens has dropped by 15%. "The construction of motorways is not to be used as an excuse for making people live on the poverty threshold." He asked GERB's government why it was necessary for such procedures to be adopted, procedures which apparently resulted in greater costs for the construction of the Trakia motorway, burdening the budget. According to Mihalevski, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works must assume his responsibility.

"Bulgarian people have been waiting for 22 years for the construction of a motorway from Sofia to the Black Sea coast or in any direction. Let me not remind you in what deplorable condition we found the construction works on the  Lyulin motorway. I hope that the memory of Bulgarian people does not fail it," retorted Prime Minister, Borissov.
