Djankov does not rule out the option for Bulgaria to give up joining the Eurozone

If during the reform in the Eurozone things come to harmonisation of taxes, Bulgaria will follow the example of Denmark and Sweden which have not adopted the single European currency, it became clear from an interview of Finance Minister Simeon Djankov for the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, posted Money.bg.

Djankov pointed out that the adoption of the Euro is Bulgaria’s long-term goal but, for the time being, we will wait to see what direction the Eurozone will go in, although our country fulfils quantitative criteria for accession to the single currency union - deficit, indebtedness, interest rates and inflation rates.

According to Djankov, Bulgaria is the most stable country in the region and budgetary discipline has been in the focus of interest since the beginning of the crisis. Since the beginning of 2012, Bulgaria’s budget has been balanced.
