Five Bulgarian pupils win a prize in an international maths contest

Five pupils attending the P. R. Slaveikov primary school in Varna won an award in an international maths contest in Romania, Darik reported. Fourth-graders Viktoria Dimitrova, Gergana Pavlinova, Hristina Kamenova, Vasil Bekov and Daniel Simeonov claimed third place in the European Kangaroo competition in Straja, Transylvania. Almost 350 contestants from Romania, Israel, Georgia, Kazakhstan and other countries had 90 minutes to solve the problems they were given. "Our team's third place is extremely valuable because our pupils were the youngest participants and were forced to solve problems at fifth- and sixth-grade levels since the Romanian organisers couldn't provide Bulgarian translation of the problems intended for fourth-graders. Furthermore, P. R. Slaveikov pupils were the only regional representatives in this international competition, apart from the hosts. All other participants had already won national contests in their respective countries," the school said.
