D. Dobrev: NA formulates the referendum question

The wording of the question for the referendum for a new nuclear power plant is entirely within the competence of the National Assembly, Economy Minister Delian Dobrev said in Parliament on Wednesday.

The question formulated by BSP in their subscription was: "Should atomic energy be developed in Bulgaria by building a power plant at the Belene platform?".

After the accepted revisions proposed by Iskra Fidosova, the question of the referendum is the following: "Should atomic energy be developed in Bulgaria by building a new power plant?".

As requested by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov before the government meeting on Wednesday, the Minister went to Parliament in order to present to lawmakers GERB's thesis on the Belene NPP once again.

"The whole Bulgarian society should be aware that if a contract for the Belene NPP had been signed in 2006 or 2008, we wouldn't have been wasting months and state money now," said Delian Dobrev, as cited by BGNES.

According to him, the referendum will cost the state about BGN 30 mln, as well as valuable time and energy of both the National Assembly and the public.

"The procedure was fulfilled in 2006, it was completed in October 2006 and in November 2006, within the one month term, a contract should have been signed, but such a contract was not signed either within the one month term, nor in the following years. Now, BSP wants a contract to be signed, but they didn't sign one when there was a strategic investor. Now, Parliament is wasting valuable time on debates in which it could have participated in 2006," said Delian Dobrev while leaving the plenary hall.

His statement provoked disapproval on the part of the Left.
