Bulgarian businesses interested in the construction of the Olympic Stadium in Baku

Bulgarian businesses show interest in building the new Olympic stadium in Baku, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova stated at the opening of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani Business Forum in the capital city of Azerbaijan, the ministry announced. According to her, joint investment opportunities can be developed in areas in which Azerbaijan has considerable experience, such as construction, rehabilitation and modernization of gas depots, gas supply and gas distribution, as well as oil refining.

Minister Pavlova said that Bulgaria takes a special interest in Azerbaijani projects, in which Bulgarian companies can participate as contractors or subcontractors. Moreover, the country is yet to invest in the construction of the first ski resort with a winter and summer tourist centre Shahdag. Another major investment project of the Government of Azerbaijan is "Baku White City", which aims at turning the industrial part of the city into the new "City" of Baku. According to preliminary estimates, the project will cost more than $100 bn.

Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Niyazi Safarov, said in turn that there are more than 30 companies with Bulgarian participation on the market in Azerbaijan. According to him, the global economic crisis has not affected Azerbaijan.

President of the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria Svetoslav Glosov, representatives of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, Trace Group Hold, PST Holding, Euro Alliance Engineering, Start Engineering, Vodstroj 98, Stanilov Ltd., Energoremont Holding, Hydrostroy, G.P. Group and AT Engineering took part in the Business Forum on the Bulgarian side. Two Bulgarian companies signed memoranda of cooperation with local partners within the framework of the Business Forum.
