Mothers stage another protest

Mothers with babies in strollers, wearing T-shirts with the inscription “There is no budget for me” marched in front of Parliament on Thursday. They believe that the Government is ignoring their needs. According to the protesters, BGN 240 a month do not suffice for anything and this makes the situation of Bulgarian mothers tragic. “With this budget, the rulers continue a 23-year policy of deliberate annihilation of the Bulgarian nation - from babies to retirees,” claimed the protesters.

As early as the beginning of the budget process for 2013, the initiative committee of mothers submitted proposals for increasing the benefits for the second year of maternal leave to the amount of the minimum wage, raising child benefits and eliminating the income criteria for receiving these. However, the mothers’ demands were not accepted at second reading of the State Social Security’s 2013 budget.

Dozens of pensioners also staged a consecutive protest in front of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, voicing their discontent with being spurned by society and the fact that the people in power take no heed of them.
