Minister Naydenov expects a decrease in food prices for Christmas

“In the last few days, there has been a downward trend in the prices of staple food products,” Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov said during the Sunday 150 programme on the Bulgarian National Radio. Pork producers have announced a price reduction for Christmas. According to Naydenov, the State aid for the sector has contributed for this. “The Association of Pig Breeders announced a 10% reduction of prices after the launch of the State aid for the sectors of pig-breeding and poultry-raising. Tens of millions of leva will go to these two sectors, allowing them to announce these price discounts for the coming Christmas and New Year holidays. I appeal to traders not to stand aloof but to do the same and reduce the prices of some basic food products. Large-scale inspections of the quality of foodstuffs will be particularly active during the holiday season. Some traders strive to use the holidays for making huge profits but they are liable to severe fines, reaching up to BGN 10,000 or to a closing down of their stores,” commented Miroslav Naydenov. According to Naydenov, a way may be found to exempt food donations from VAT.
