Put your administrations in order, PM Borissov ordered

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov gave Ministers a deadline - by Tuesday, each of them must submit a report on the lay-offs made so far in their administration, as well as the real number of permanent and part-time staff. This became clear from the transcript of this week's meeting of the Government.

The Prime Minister's order concerns the change discussed in the decree of 1996, which allows for the appointment of additional part-time positions in each Ministry. The Ministry of Finance insisted that an amendment be made, which would prohibit new appointments of part-time staff, aimed at the optimisation of the administration. Most Ministers, however, insisted on the option for appointments of additional part-time personnel. Deputy Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov stated that there is a conflict between the intended and actual reform actions in which each Minister would defend their employees. "Put your administrations in order. I will put it more simply: I want to have 36 Ministers; this is their number in Greece, for example. But I have to work with 16," said Borissov.
