UDF to revive Democratia newspaper

On January 24, 2013, the first issue of a new weekly newspaper - Democratia (Democracy) - will be published. The Editor-in-Chief of the weekly, a publication of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), will be Alexander Yordanov - one of the former founders of UDF, Chairman of the Radical Democratic Party, MP, Chairman of the National Assembly, Ambassador to Warsaw and Skopje. The news was broken on Tuesday by the incumbent Chairman of UDF Emil Kabaivanov.

“This is the revival of a legend because Democratia is a name dear to all of us and people were rushing to buy the newspaper which was born in 1990,” said Alexander Yordanov. According to him, the old photos show that many of the famous Bulgarian actors and musicians were vendors of this paper at the beginning of the democratic period in Bulgaria’s modern history. “The weekly will continue the tradition of Democratia and Democratia Dnes (Democracy Today),” added Yordanov.

According to Kabaivanov, the newspaper will fill a niche as a right-wing oriented weekly. It will have a network of correspondents in Bulgaria’s major cities.
