Minister Atanasova: Medicines for cancer patients are the responsibility of heads of hospitals

The provision of medicines for patients with cancer is the responsibility of heads of hospitals, Health Minister Desislava Atanasova told journalists in Varna. On Sunday, the Health Minister inaugurated the renewed Division of Gastroenterology in St. Anna Hospital - Varna. There is a more than 32% increase in wages for workers in all blood centres in the country, said Atanasova. "I kept my promise, and, as of January 1, 2013, salaries of employees in all blood centres in the country, not only in Varna, were increased by another 16.6%. Currently, the increase for these is more than 32%, as of November 1, 2012," said the Health Minister.

In connection with the World Cancer Day, which is marked on February 4, Minister Atanasova said that there were some problems with two medicinal products. These have already been delivered in the country - one of the products in large quantities - more than 24,000 doses. The other product is to be delivered this week. "Procurement is carried out by the hospitals themselves and these have to negotiate the rhythmic delivery of cancer drugs. The Ministry intervened at this point because it has to ensure the treatment of patients," said Minister Atanasova.
