We back efforts for adding Rose Festival to UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage: Bulgaria tourism minister

“Ministry of Tourism backs the efforts the municipality of Kazanlak makes regarding rose-picking [so that] the Rose Festival is added to the UNESCO list of the intangible cultural heritage,” said Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova, speaking at the Rose Festival celebrations on Sunday, Radio FOCUS reported.
“Rose-picking and roses are emblematic for Kazanlak and we are doing our best to make this popular. The Rose Valley was visited by over 220,000 tourists in the 2014-2015 tourist season. We hope their number will be much higher this year,” the minister commented.
Nikolina Angelkova explained she backed rose growing, which shaped the Rose Valley as a separate tourist destination.
The rose-picking ritual in the town of Kazanlak set the start of the climax in the 2016 Rose Festival celebrations.
The event was also attended by Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, deputy chair of Bulgaria’s mandate-holder Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) and chair of the CEDB parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and others.
