Ombudsman Maya Manolova supported the association of mayors of small settlements

“It is a real honour to be invited to the official establishment of the National Association of Mayors in Bulgaria. It is also an honour and highly important that this takes place in the town of Karlovo – the cradle of the Bulgarian revival, the town that gave us the Apostol – Vasil Levski.”
This is what Ombudsman Maya Manolova said in her address, welcoming the initiative of the mayors of small settlements to join an association to the benefit of the citizens and as an attempt to solve their problems, the press office of the Ombudsman announced.
“You and I, dear mayors, are natural partners. We are the people on the frontline, fighting to solve people’s problems. We are the one to face the problems of the people,” Ms Manolova remarked.
The Ombudsman remarked that at the background of the restricted authorities the mayors of small settlements had, their task was exceptionally hard because people considered them the official state representation in the concrete place and expected them to solve their problems.
Maya Manolova commented further that she would support the proposals and demands of the new association so as the mayors of small municipalities to have their own budget, bigger authorities, to be able to apply under different programmes, and etc.
“I am absolutely convinced that you want these authorities not for yourself but for the people, who have placed trust in you and elected you on these posts,” she said.
