Minister Vezhdi Rashidov: There have been investment intentions towards the tobacco warehouses in Plovdiv

 “In the Monuments of Culture we found a document from 2010 which shows that projects and documents on demonstration have been filed, which means demolition and building of three more floors over the already existing ones at the so-called tobacco warehouses. This is the project. We have it and we will publish it on the website of the ministry after the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Culture do their job. Indeed, there have been investment intentions. We are about to inform the society and the competent authorities, of course.”
This is what Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov said speaking at the sitting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the transcript of the sitting shows.
“We have ascertained when the monument of culture was sold. It is a donation from a rich Bulgaria from Plovdiv municipality. However, during the government of the tripartite coalition it was sold out to Peshtera and the Italian,” Minister Rashidov commented.
“However, the does not save them from responsibility over what happened,” he added.

Four of the former tobacco warehouses in Plovdiv were damaged by a fire on August 20, 2016. The damaged buildings are part of the Tobacco City, while the whole complex is declared a monument of culture. 
On Monday, August 22, the District Prosecutor’s Office of Plovdiv pressed charges on 44-year-old Lyudmil Danchev, who is a homeless person illegally living in the warehouses. Danchev is known to the police and has been convicted several times. He pleads not guilty.
