Interior minister: No grounds to change general policy on Turkey

“We have no grounds to change our general policy on Turkey.” This is what Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumiana Bachvarova said speaking at a briefing at the Council of Ministers, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
Speaking about the aid Bulgaria should receive under Frontex, Ms Bachvarova said that we had declared readiness to accept more officers.
“We expect the 60 officers they offered us and there is already an approval for their arrival from Poland, as well as for the respective equipment necessary for their work,” the minister said.
Asked to comment on Turkey’s statement that the deal on receiving back refugees will be broken unless the visa-free regime is introduced, Rumiana Bachvarova said that there were many risks that were analysed at the moment, as well as country’s possible response to them.
“We keep in touch with our partners in Brussels and Turkey. We are monitoring the situation. I accept such political claims as conditional, part of the dialogue, which is connected with many other arguments,” she commented further.
Commenting on the situation at the border to Turkey, the interior minister said: “Over the past days there have been groups, which we managed to detain. We are monitoring the flow and the necessary forces have been deployed at the border. We have activated all means that can hamper the illegal crossing of the border and the trafficking.”
