None of the Bulgarian taxpayers reported incomes above BGN 10 mln for 2010

The crisis hit, albeit late, the incomes of the wealthiest Bulgarians and none of our compatriots declared an income above BGN 10 mln for 2010, according to the data of the income-tax declarations of physical entities from all over the country processed so far, announced NRA (National Revenue Agency). Last year, the highest declared income of a person amounted to BGN 9.7 mln, while the second and third places were occupied by individuals who declared more than BGN 6 mln. The last position in the Top 10 of wealthiest taxpayers was for a sum of only BGN 2.5 mln, specified NRA representatives before Klassa. Nine of the Top 10 richest physical persons are Sofia citizens.

In 2009, overall three Bulgarians declared incomes of over BGN 10 mln and paid accordingly over BGN 1 mln in taxes, while in 2008 only one person deposited a similar amount with the tax collectors. The revenues of the ten wealthiest Bulgarians are generated from activities related to the purchase and sale of stocks and shares, the provision of financial, consulting, advocacy services, and others.

Their total amount of annual taxable income base (their total revenue reduced by security contributions and eligible costs) is BGN 46.4 mln. This means that individual income tax of nearly BGN 4.5 mln will be infused into the State Treasury by the wealthy people.

According to NRA Head Krassimir Stefanov, at least 667 people are expected to declare incomes of over BGN 2 mln for last year. In 2009, an individual taxable income of over BGN 500,000 was declared by oveall 3865 taxpayers, while an income of over BGN 1 mln – by 1,673 persons. An amount of over BGN 1.5 mln was declared by 995 people and over BGN 2 mln – by 667 individuals.

Two years ago, at the height of the crisis in our country, one hundred Bulgarians, who had earned the highest rate of incomes from work outside employment contracts, declared overall BGN 347 mln in taxable proceeds. Out of these taxpayers, only the first three disposed of over BGN 48 mln, or more than the ten wealthiest taxpayers for last year.
