Separate collection of construction waste to become mandatory

Up to 90% of all construction waste should be collected separately and recycled, stipulates an ordinance which is currently being drafted by the Ministry of Environment and Water and offered for public discussion. The aim is to reduce the amount of waste to be landfilled and to recycle more than 70% of the waste by 2020 and use it again in construction.

As of 2012, some 85% of the concrete, 90% of the copper, bronze, zinc and iron should be used repeatedly. The requirements regarding other inputs such as bricks, wood, glass, plastics and asphalt mixtures will increase gradually.

The Ministry of Environment and Water will also introduce requirements for using a certain percentage of recycled waste in buildings and roads funded by public money. Builders will be obliged to use up to 2% of recycled inputs in buildings and up to 10% in roads. These objectives must also be achieved in stages by 2020. In 2012, construction waste used repeatedly should account for 0.5% of buildings and for 3% of roads.
