Kuneva demands suspension of the procedure for the selection of Prosecutor General

In a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Bulgaria for Citizens Movement insists on suspending all procedures for selecting administrative leaders and key officials in the judiciary, including suspension of the procedure for selecting a new Prosecutor General.

The reason is the absence of a constituted and operating Public Council at SJC, whose creation was initially announced in the measures of the Justice Minister and was subsequently adopted as a decision of the SJC.

The appointment of key figures in the judicial system, such as a Director of the National Investigation Service or an Acting Prosecutor General without an established and operating mechanism for civil participation is an unambiguous sign that the new SJM continues the line of the old one, imitating joint work with civil organisations, according to Meglena Kuneva and her party.

Bulgaria for Citizens Movement explicitly insists on suspending the launched procedures and taking no action for opening new selection procedures before the establishment of a Public Council at SJC’s Communications Commission.
