Police union demands compensations from the State for the cancelled donations

“The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will not be able to cope with its everyday tasks without donations and the State must provide these funds,” said Galentin Grozev from the Security Syndication Alliance for the National Radio today. According to him, the ban on donations from individuals and private companies is late and will lead to units’ restructuring at the MoI.

"The mere suspension of a resource, without its replacement by another, leads inevitably to a crisis. This is a dangerous thing because it can directly compromise the performance of our professional duties," added Grozev. According to him, the deficit in the Ministry has already reached a 9-digit number, and police officers are in charge of "endless number of various activities".

“Another acceptable option is to divide this huge structure into smaller structures. I guess this is exactly what Mr. Djankov wants. But this should not lead to laying off personnel as we are currently below the minimum payroll in all our structures,” said Grozev.

According to him, the policemen Konstantin Andreev and Ivo Ivanov from the Interior Ministry did not voluntarily leave their jobs. These are the two police officers who made public the lists of donors. “Although they submitted resignations, none of them really wanted to do this, but they were frustrated by the many checks that had begun against them and that would eventually lead to their dismissal,” explained Grizev.
