Tsvetan Tsvetanov: We will announce our candidate for the Presidential Post in July

“The candidacy of GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) for the Presidential Post will be announced in July at the earliest. I can only say that now we are considering two possible candidacies - of a man and a woman,” highlighted yesterday Chairman of GERB’s election campaign headquarters and Vice-Chairman of the party Tsvetanov for TV7. Many people believe that the lady who will be nominated for the post is Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova. It is known, that Kristalina Georgieva can not participate in the campaign because she does not meet the constitutional requirement to have lived in Bulgaria during the last five years.

“Every Government makes mistakes. Our fault is that we didn't start the reform of the judiciary earlier,” stated Tsvetanov. The Minister of Interior acknowledged that the real situation when it comes to the link between organized crime and the State was not known. According to Tsvetanov, problems accumulated over 20 years can not be tackled in two years, especially since "there was no political will for this in the past.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior said that the Government had achievements in the fight against organized crime, which had been acknowledged in the interim report of the EU for Bulgaria.

On Saturday, Volen Siderov, leader of Ataka party, offered his candidacy for the Presidential Post to the ruling party for the TV 7 channel. “If GERB want to be reasonable, they could take the decision to support my candidacy,” said Siderov. He confirmed that he was ready and would run for Head of State Post this autumn, but made it clear, however, that it was more likely he would be a competitor to the candidate of GERB. “This does not mean that Ataka would stab the candidate of the ruling party during the election campaign,” stated Siderov.
