Rumen Hristov is UDF’s candidate for the presidential elections

Rumen Hristov, Deputy Chairperson of UDF (United Democratic Forces), is the party's nominee for the presidential elections. This was announced after a secret ballot of UDF National Council's members who had to choose between Rumen Hristov and Nadezdha Neinski.The third candidate, MP Vanyo Sharkov, chose not to take part in the competition.

Nadezhda Neinski did not stay for the press conference after the vote, where the head of UDF's election headquarters Boris Markov flatly refused to announce the results of the ballot. Klassa daily learnt from a member of the party's National Council that Hristov had gathered 45 and Mrs. Neinski - 26 votes, while 5 voting-papers had been declared spoilt.

"Rumen Hristov is a tough person, he does not give up easily and leads the battle to the end. There is hope that he will get the support of Bulgarian citizens." With these words, UDF leader Martin Dimitrov presented the candidate. Boris Markov added that it was difficult to choose between two decent people. According to the head of the election headquarters, the members of the National Council opted for a person whose profile will be suitable for the Bulgarian citizens at the present moment. Rumen Hristov is familiar with the work of the presidential institution since he was the presidential aide of Presidents Zhelyu Zhelev and Peter Stoyanov.

"I believe in UDF, I believe in the right-wing and that we will succeed in the upcoming elections," said Rumen Hristov. He thanked Martin Dimitrov for selecting his candidature, although in the past they were competitors for the leadership post of UDF. In response to a question, Hristov said that he would be honored to enter into battle for the presidential post even with PM Boiko Borissov. Before that, it would be no problem for him to participate in open preliminary elections with DSB (Democrats for Strong Bulgaria) leader Ivan Kostov, he added.
