UDF and DSB to launch open elections for their candidate for the Presidential post

“The Blue coalition will nominate joint candidates for President and for Mayor of Sofia after open elections,” became clear after yesterday's meeting at the headquarters of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) between the coalition partners. On Tuesday, UDF nominated its Deputy Chairman Rumen Hristov for participation in the presidential elections and, before the Easter holidays, Vladimir Kissyov, Chairman of the Blue coalition’s group in SMC was nominated for Mayor of Sofia.

On Thursday, a working group will be set up in charge of drafting the rules for the open vote, explained DSB (Democrats for Strong Bulgaria) leader Ivan Kostov to journalists yesterday. He assured that no speculations will be allowed and that the desire for the elections to be held as soon as possible was shared by everyone. Kostov said that DSB had its own candidates for President and for Mayor of Sofia but their names will not be announced before the completion of all procedures.

When asked whether he would like to partake in the presidential race, Kostov answered that he had never nominated himself. DSB's leader did not answer the question as to what he will do if he is nominated by the party and declined to comment on whether he approved of the candidacy of Rumen Hristov. "I like this option,” said Kostov regarding the possibility for MEP Svetoslav Malinov to be nominated as candidate for the presidential post. "The most important issue is that we decided firmly to support the Blue coalition because we reckon it has potential," said the leader of DSB.
