The Attestation Commissions for the evaluation of the candidates for the specialised court already elected

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) elected yesterday the Attestation Commissions, which will conduct the interviews with the magistrates willing to operate in the specialised court and prosecutor's office for handling cases of organised crime. The new institutions for tackling the cases of organised crime must launch operation as of the beginning of September. The bio-data of the candidates for the first instance Prosecutor's Office will be compiled by the magistrate Andrea Atanassov. He was former Head of the Plovdiv Appellate Prosecutor's Office before the scandal with the notorious man Krassimir Georgiev. According to the data released in the period April 22 – June 16, 2009, Atanassov had seven telephone conversations with Krassimir Georgiev and they met twice. Trendafil Traykov, in turn, will interview the applicants for the posts of prosecutors at the specialised prosecutor's office. The former military Sofia district prosecutor is acting currently as a prosecutor at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office. The Members of the Attestation Commission which will interview the candidates for the post of specialised judges involve Elena Karakasheva, Zhivka Deneva, Vassil Gashov, Galya Georgieva and Valya Rushanova. The latter became notorious with her decision to release detainees in the special criminal operation "The killers" and "All Trumps".

"It is commented that the Prosecutor's Office is not under control and that the monitoring on it should be strengthened. I can give you an idea - let the Prosecutor General be ousted from the panel entitled to operate in the SJC so as to grant more freedom to the already dechaired Council for monitoring the Prosecutor's Office," proposed the Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev on the occasion of the consultation launched on the amendment of the Bulgarian Constitution in the chapter on the judicial authority.

The case of Vladimira Yaneva and the sms-campaign aimed at the resignation of the SJC members were also commented at the yesterday's meeting of senior magistrates. The Chief Inspector at the SJC Inspectorate, Ana Karaivanova proposed to the Council before deciding whether and how to penalise Yaneva for a delay of the criminal proceedings instigated against Sofia Real Estates SPLTD, to wait for the completion of the thorough inspection which is currently underway in the Criminal Department of the SCC (Sofia City Court). Ultimately, the magistrates approved her proposal.
