Boyko Borissov: We will amend the Constitution by the end of June because of the Financial Stability Pact

"By the end of June we will amend the Constitution in order to enforce the provisions of the new Financial Stability Pact," PM Boyko Borissov said on Nova TV yesterday. "I hope for the support of all political parties with which Finance Minister Simeon Djankov has already spoken," highlihgted PM Borissov. However, it became clear from his words that he excluded the Socialists from this list because he considered them populists. "The Financial Stability Pact will make Bulgaria a highly respected and disciplined EU country," added PM Borissov.

Let us remind that the Financial Stability Pact has three main pillars: limiting government expenditures to 40% of the gross domestic product (GDP), guaranteeing a balanced budget position and capping the public deficit at less than 2% of GDP, and a two-third majority in Parliament for any corporate and income tax changes.

"First, we must complete the construction of the infrastructure and our second task is to maintain the financial stability," Borissov said. According to him, maintenance of the fiscal stability is a task of higher priority than the goal of winning the elections. "My role is similar to that of a surgeon. Reforms are the only way for this system to be recovered," he said.

According to him, the Danube 2 bridge will be opened for traffic in October 2012. "We have prepared the necessary infrastructure and within 4 weeks we will launch the construction of the waste plant of Sofia. It should be completed within a year and a half," said Borissov.
