Boyko Borissov: We will not hold elections before we build the highways

“We will not hold elections before we build the highways. And when they are built, within a year or a year and a half, I think that there will be no Bulgarian who will vote for another party,” said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the opening of the road junction at the town of Nova Zagora on the Trakia highway yesterday.

"I do not want to listen to this nonsense about early elections. Who will go and vote for us before we have built the highways? “asked the Prime Minister. He was on the site together with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Liliana Pavlova.

Borissov added that the Government showed every day what has been built – a theatre, an opera house, the highways - and people understood where every BGN has been invested.

The Prime Minister and the two Ministers inspected the construction activities on the Trakia highway junction at Nova Zagora. Borissov was pleased that the construction activities were being carried out two months ahead of the deadline. The work is completed at 80% and it remains for the layer of asphalt to be laid, but the site engineers are waiting for favourable weather conditions.

“This year, the Road Infrastructure Agency will have some BGN 700 mln at its disposal for payment of road construction activities,” announced Minister Liliana Pavlova. She noted that tenders for the construction of the tracks near the towns of Vratsa, Montana, the Sofia-Kalotina section have already been called. According to Pavlova, over BGN 180 mln have been allocated for the construction of road infrastructure. More than 2,500 km of roads will be reconstructed. As of June 30, the 2nd lot, the 3rd lot and the first miles of lot 4 of the Trakia highway will be put into service with an act 16. The last lot of the highway will be completed in February 2013. The contracts for the construction of the Struma highway are due to be signed in March.
