If needed, kerosene sufficient for 10 days will be unblocked from the State Reserve

If necessary, the State Reserve will unblock kerosene for 10 days. The decision for the release of additional quantities of jet fuel from the mandatory reserves of petroleum and petroleum products was made yesterday at the regular meeting of the Government. The Press Office of the Council of Ministers explained that it aimed at regulating the supply of jet fuel kerosene type Jet-A1 for the civil aviation. It was stipulated that the quantities would be used only in case of a disturbance in the continuity of kerosene supply.

“Last week, we decided to unblock the amount sufficient for a week,” said Minister of Transport Ivaylo Moscovski after the meeting of the Cabinet. He stated that, currently, the amount provided has still not been used. Moscovski emphasised that, regarding the fuel for the State Railways (BDZ), an option has been discussed for the supply to be cancelled because of the liabilities of the company. "The debt will be repaid in the next few days, so that there will be no difficulties in the supply of diesel fuel for BDZ,” said the Minister of Transport.

But according to data from the report of the State Reserve and War-time Stocks Agency for the first half of the year, published on August 2, the State has at its disposal fuel for merely 50 days instead of the required by the European Commission at least 80 days. The data shows that the secured amount of fuel will be sufficient for 50 days and will be provided by indebted individuals alone.

Yesterday, officials from the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) stated that CPC will investigate Lukoil Bulgaria for possible abuse of dominant position on the fuel market. Certain contracted conditions applied in business practices which can lead to "closure of the market " gave raise to the suspicions. According to the regulation, CPC has to refer to Brussels about the initiated investigation because its experts reckon that the case may affect the Community market and distort competition in the region
