The GERB Cabinet to allocate up to BGN 5 mln to compensate the damages in Pernik inflicted by the earthquake

We are ready to allocate the amount of up to BGN 5 mln for the initial reconstruction works on three kindergartens in the town of Pernik and a school located in the town of Radomir, which are in the direst condition after the earthquake. This was announced yesterday by Deputy PM and Finance Minister Simeon Djankov. He spoke shortly after his joint inspection with the Regional Development and Public Works Minister Liliana Pavlova of the damages inflicted on the Pernik-based kindergarten by the earthquake on May 22.

According to Djankov, as early as today, the mayors of Pernik and Radomir will be able to initiate the conclusion process of the public procurement contracts jointly with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.

The two-hour meeting yesterday between the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, as well as the Regional Minister Liliana Pavlova and the Minister of EU Funds Management, Tomislav Donchev and the EU Commissioner, Kristalina Georgieva decided to attribute a major priority to the restoration of public buildings. Today, Minister Tsvetanov and Kristalina Georgieva will visit the Pernik villages Divotino and Meshtitsa, which are among the worst affected by the earthquake.

"The meeting with the Prime Minister decided to implement a complete analysis and constructive evaluations of some 50 buildings, which were the most affected by the earthquake. The children in kindergartens will be transferred to other child care facilities," stated Liliana Pavlova.

According to Pavlova, the affected buildings number 15 000, but priority will be attributed to the reconstruction of those for which the citizens have already filed claims for compensation. The recovery of illegal buildings will not be financed, stated Simeon Djankov.

The meeting of the Executive Committee of GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) has decided to donate BGN 300,000 from the party subsidy to the victims of earthquakes in Pernik and the district. The money will be transferred to the account of BRC (Bulgarian Red Cross), announced yesterday the party's press centre. A public council will be set up in order to decide how these funds will be managed, stated to the Focus Agency the Chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross Hristo Grigorov.

The hitherto detected damages inflicted on public buildings in the Pernik municipality amount to BGN 10 mln, announced yesterday the Mayor Rositsa Yanakieva. A little earlier, on BNR (Bulgarian National Radio), she predicted that the damages inflicted by the earthquake, which shook the region measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, could reach BGN 20 mln. However, she pointed out that the experts will have the final say on the issue.
