Over €300 mln transferred under OP Transport in 2011

This year, over €300 mln in grants were transferred under Operational Programme (OP) Transport, said Transport Minister, Ivaylo Moskovski at the opening of the forum on the progress of the programme's implementation. In 2011, the EU Fund has allocated a total of €1.1 bn out of the total grant amount of €2.003 bn. So far, the European Commission has refunded Bulgaria with about €374 mln under the OP.

The statistics of the Transport Ministry showed that the beneficiaries had signed contracts for €1.181 bn, or 59% of the total financial resource of the programme. The data presented was dated December 12. It was scheduled for the entire financial resources available under the OP to be agreed by mid-2012. The total number of projects approved for funding under the OP is 66 and there are 4 railway construction projects worth more than €50 mln. Besides, there are 5 road sector projects, 2 projects for intermodality development and one water sector project. By the end of the year, Parliament is expected to approve the construction of the railway line between the towns of Parvomay and Svilengrad. At the moment, a procedure is underway for the coordinated construction of the Maritsa motorway and the railway route Septemvri - Plovdiv. "As regards the coordinated construction of the transport projects, we are still responding to the questions posed by the European Commission and we expect to receive a definite answer at the beginning of 2012," explained Galina Vassileva, Head of the Programme and Project Coordination Directorate with the Transport Ministry. Currently, the rehabilitation of the railway line Plovdiv-Burgas and Septemvri-Plovdiv is being implemented, as well as the construction of Lots 1 and 2 of the Maritsa highway, Lot 1 of the Struma highway, the road junction between the Hemus motorway and the Sofia ring road, and the road section Kardjali – Podkova (Horseshoe).
