BDZ losses from the strike - somel BGN 2.9 mln

The final financial loss of the Holding Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) amounted to BGN 2.9 mln as a result of the latest strike, announced the company's management. The protests continued for 24 days and trains did not go between 8:00 and 16:00 every day. According to BDZ executives, the suspension of the trains was pointless. In the opinion of the trade unions, the halting of trains has led to positive effect because the signing of the collective labor agreement has retained the incomes of BDZ employees as well as the night-shift pay and the additional remuneration for professional expertise and length of service.

"The legal claim filed for declaring the strike illegal will be withdrawn," stated Yordan Nedev, CEO of the BDZ company. According to him, the signed collective agreement brought a reform that will allow for the development of positive economic processes in the BDZ over the next two years.

The prices of railway tickets will increase by 9% as of January 1, 2012 as part of the measures for BDZ's rehabilitation scheme. Besides, a new online ticket booking system will be introduced into service. The process for sale of operating assets will not be interrupted as well as the measures for reducing the travels without a ticket. Next year, it was scheduled for the BDZ-Freight Services Ltd. to be privatised, hope the BDZ's executives.

"Within 1-2 years, the railway transport will become the most preferred mode of transport," said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, having attended the speed tests on the road section Krumovo - Parvomay. He was accompanied by the Transport Minister, Ivaylo Moskovski as well as by the Minsiter of Regional Development and Public Works, Liliana Pavlova and the Minister of EU Funds Management, Tomislav Donchev. The Prime Minister gave a very high assessment of the entirely upgraded railway line and indicated that it takes only 14 minutes to travel between the stations Krumovo - Parvomay since the trains already develop high speed of almost 170 km / h. Bulgaria already complies with the European strategy, according to which after 2020, there will be investments into the railroad construction and the funds for the construction of highways wil be re-transferred to more efficient transport infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance ordered the payment transfer of the principal amount of the government guaranteed loan for financing the "Project for BDZ's Rehabilitation'', granted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The payment worth €2.97 mln must be deposited by the BDZ Holding. At the same time, the railway company announced that additional 179 train will be launched into traffic for the Christmas holidays.
