Borissov: I will not run for President

“I will not run for President in the next elections and Rosen Plevneliev will not prepare my candidacy,” stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at a press conference on Sunday evening after the official announcement of the end of the election day. He said that he was tired and will need a break. The Prime Minister was clear that he did not want this issue to be discussed further. According to Borissov, there is no doubt that, after his election, Rosen Plevneliev will become independent and will not take into account the opinions of Borissov.

The Prime Minister said that the election of Rosen Plevneliev and Margarita Popova is a party vote. “No matter whom we had nominated he would have become President, but we chose the best possible candidacy," said Borissov. He was adamant that he will not regard the presidential couple as his subordinates.

"Until yesterday, they were ministers, and I have argued with them and given them tasks, but today they are Mr. Plevneliev and Ms. Popova. If we have common ground, this will concern our work alone," he stated. According to him, only state protocol will now place them together.

"The world is suffering from the crisis, I cannot express how thankful I am to the people because if we had lost, there would have been early elections now," said Borissov. The Prime Minister gave his word that he will deal responsibly with the confidence displayed in him so that he may be able to seek support without shame once again in two years' time.
