Qatar invests €100 million in our tourism, infrastructure and agriculture

During the official visit of the Bulgarian governmental delegation, headed by PM Boyko Borissov, to Qatar, the main focus of the bilateral talks was the development of economic relations in which food processing, tourism, construction, real estate and pharmaceuticals were identified as priority areas.

The Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, assured that Qatar would initially invest €100 mln in projects in the spheres of tourism, infrastructure and agriculture. PM Borissov appreciated the fact that Qatar intends to invest in Bulgaria at a time of a global economic and financial crisis. It was agreed to sign an agreement for investments in May when representatives of Qatar will visit Bulgaria for specification of the projects. Culture is also a possible field of cooperation. Negotiations for the establishment of a Centre for the Study of Southeastern Europe in Qatar with the participation of Bulgarian universities and of a Centre for the Study of the Persian Gulf in Sofia with the support of Qatar are already in the finalisation phase.
