A national protest organised in support of Botev

A new Facebook group in support of Hristo Botev is gaining momentum. Organisers of the protest are displeased with the possibility that the genius poet may be excluded from Bulgarian textbooks because of discriminatory phrases such as “the Turk is raging”. Protesters warn that if the poet revolutionary is excluded from the school curriculum, they will make sure that no student will enter any school on September 15. “How will we do that? Just try and you'll see!,” wrote protesters, who call themselves “The grateful Bulgarians who still remember why and how their great compatriots sacrificed themselves”.

The Prosveta publishing house warned about the possibility of excluding Botev from textbooks because it was dissatisfied with a report by the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) criticising part of the Bulgarian literary classics. Over 4,000 people have informed about the protest on their Facebook profiles and have published the pictures of the commission members.
