Research organisations record profits of more than BGN 4 mln

“Bulgarian research organisations and technology companies recorded profits of nearly €4 mln in 2010,” announced officials from the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC). The funds were allocated under European programmes aimed at developing information and communication technologies. The funds granted were two times larger, compared to 2009.

The Institute of Information and Communication Technology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is drafting a historical dictionary with about 10,000 Bulgarian words used in the second half of the XIX century, along with the digitisation of pages of national newspapers issued in the same period. This is part of a project for electronic access to our cultural heritage, called IMPACT, which involves seven international and national state libraries. The total project cost is €16.5 mln, out of which BAS will receive nearly €67,000. The project must be completed within 48 months. Six public research institutes and two companies from the industry will partake in it. The establishment of a centre for access to the archives of all libraries and museums involved in the digitisation of textual materials is part of the plan.
