Bulgaria is 47th in a global gold reserves holders ranking

Bulgaria is 47th in a global ranking of gold reserves holders. Its 39.9 tonnes of gold account for 11.7% of the country’s total reserves, showed data of the World Gold Council as of August 2012. At the end of last year, our country occupied the 45th position with the same quantity of gold, which accounted for 11.8% of Bulgaria’s total reserves then.

The United States tops the list of global gold reserves holders with 8,133 tonnes of gold, accounting for 75.1% of the country’s total reserves. Germany ranks second with 3,395 tonnes and the International Monetary Fund is third with 2,914 tonnes, posted Standard daily. Next comes Italy with 2,451 tonnes, followed by France with 2,435 tonnes, China (1,054 tonnes), Switzerland (1,040 tonnes), Russia (918 tonnes) and Japan (765 tonnes). The Netherlands is also in the top ten ranking with 612 tonnes of gold reserves, accounting for 60.2% of its total reserves. Among the top ten, Japan is the country whose gold reserves account for the lowest share of its total reserves - only 3.1%.

A total of 35 countries have gold reserves of over 100 tonnes, including our northern neighbour Romania, which occupies the 33rd place with 103.7 tonnes of gold reserves.
