President Plevneliev: Bulgaria is first in the EU in terms of wasted energy

Bulgaria is first in the European Union in terms of wasted energy, stated yesterday the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev in his official address to the nation from the parliamentary rostrum. He also pointed out to the solution of the problem: "We should achieve higher energy efficiency since the cheapest energy is the saved one". The President also highlighted the importance of diversification of energy sources and supported the decision of the GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) Cabinet for withdrawal from the NPP Belene construction project.

The programme "Bulgaria 2020" will be also an action plan because it actually targets a policy of political detachment and sustainability, reckoned Plevneliev. According to him, this programme will be a strong trump card for the GERB government to negotiate the maximum beneficial terms and conditions for Bulgaria under the EU fiscal framework for the period 2014-2020.

Bulgarian exports should be supported, insisted the President. He demanded that the small and medium-sized enterprises be supported and called for the development of an active policy for attracting investment.

The President also presented the results of the initiative “A Month of Political Consultations'', conducted at his own instigation. In his speech, Plevneliev highlighted as especially important measures those supporting the economy, employment, energy efficiency and diversification programmes.

Some parliamentary groups also publicised their statements on the President's official address. "If you have the intention and willingness to work in favour of the national interests and objectives, then iyou will find partners in the face of BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) and the Coalition for Bulgaria," assured Angel Naydenov.

On behalf of MRF (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), MP Lyutvi Mestan stated that the party perceived the conducted consultations as an attempt to find the intersection point between political differences as well as to discover an area of ​​mutual consent in the name of national interests.
