Borissov gives BGN 30 mln for science

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov gave BGN 30 mln to universities and research institutes and more than BGN 14 mln to PhD students and young scientists at a ceremony held at the Sheraton Sofia Hotel. The funds are from the Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2007-2013. The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Sergei Ignatov and Social Minister Totyu Mladenov. The Minister of Education said that, thanks to the Trakia highway, the Plovdiv Medical University has signed a contract with a hospital in Bourgas, where students will be trained.

Borissov, in turn, said that education is a priority for the government. He added that there is more money for science, for education and for teachers. "There were times when they were told to break up the "gatherings", people have to choose," the Prime Minister commented.

Borissov, Mladenov and Ignatov also awarded 13 contracts worth BGN 6,133,277 to support PhD students, postgraduates and young scientists again under OP Human Resources Development. The total budget for this project is BGN 14,111,649, and it has approved for funding 29 projects at universities and institutes.

BAS's Institute of System Engineering and Robotics received BGN 290,000.
