The State lends BGN 30 mln to advertise tourism

The State has lent BGN 30 mln to advertise Bulgarian tourist products and develop tourist infrastructure. However, in order to advertise beyond the national tourism advertisement, which is also essential, the municipalities should be subsidised in order to develop advertisements for regional tourism products. Only municipal projects with a vision and strategy stand a chance of being approved. This was announced by Lilyana Pavlova, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, in Dobrich, as quoted by Focus Information Agency. Mrs. Pavlova pointed out that it is of vital importance to advertise Bulgaria as a tourist destination because Bulgaria has wonderful sites which are still unknown. “Even if these sites were supplied with the best infrastructure, they should be advertised, we should know and hear about them,” the minister commented. Under the “Support for Regional Tourism Product Development and Destination Marketing” scheme, an average of three municipalities can jointly receive BGN 500,000 in order to achieve that, Mrs. Pavlova added. The ministry has received 49 project proposals, 28 have been approved for funding and 21 municipalities will receive funds officially in Dobrich on Tuesday, including Bansko, Burgas, Vratsa, Veliko Tarnovo, Varshets, Dobrich, Dulovo, Elena, Kazanlak, Lovech, Momchilgrad, Montana, Plovdiv, Pomorie, Ruse, Samokov, Sliven, Svishtov, Tran, Tundzha and Shumen. The funds will be used to determine the tourism potential of a particular municipality or tourist product to penetrate international tourism markets, “because Bulgaria can show its unique history and unique sites,” Lilyana Pavlova said. She added that there is spare capacity of another BGN 6 mln, which can be granted to other municipalities which have not applied for funding yet or whose projects have been approved.
