GERB nominates Jeleva for Vice Chairman of EPP

GERB nominated former Foreign Minister and unsuccessful candidate for European Commissioner Rumiana Jeleva for a second term as Vice Chairman of the European People's Party (EPP).

Her nomination is expected to be voted on at the EPP Congress in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday.

The candidates are more than the vice-chair positions and EPP's President, Wilfried Martens, has personally insisted to his Bulgarian partners on Jeleva's nomination. In recent years, Martens has repeatedly praised the work of Jeleva, announced BNR.

76-year-old Martens, who has been heading the party since 1990, has already said that he would like to remain in office in the future as well, which will happen, given that there are no other candidates for the position.

Rumiana Jeleva was elected for a three-year term to the post in December 2009 - shortly after her failure to become European Commissioner.
